Portable appliance testing | PAT Testing
in Shropshire, the Midlands and beyond

PAT Testing (Portable appliance testing) is the name by which electrical appliances are routinely checked for safety through a series of visual inspections and electronic tests. The formal term for the process is “in-service inspection & testing of electrical equipment”.

If has become a fundamental requirement for maintaining electrical safety in the workplace.

The Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Memorandum of Guidance identifies that an adequate system of preventative electrical maintenance can provide a means of complying with the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR).

Evidence shows that a large number of the dangers, deaths and injuries caused by misused or faulty electrical equipment can be prevented when proper electrical checking, inspection and safety testing procedures are in place.

In this way‚ planned and proactive portable appliance testing programmes help to detect potential safety problems with electrical appliances before they occur.

With our competent engineers upon formal completion of all testing undertaken you will received from the office a report for your Health and Safety files that details the following as a minimum:

  • An inventory containing each appliance type, name, location and description
  • A full set of test results for each appliance tested
  • A full list of any failed items with an explanation of their failure
  • A visible pass or fail label on each appliance detailing the inspection date, next test due and the inspector’s signature.
